CityScene welcomes summer editorial interns
Columbus, OH – CityScene Media Group, premier publisher of magazines in central Ohio, is pleased to welcome four summer interns to its editorial department.
Lindsey Capritta, Katie Ellington, Hannah Herner and Hailey Stangebye all started the week of May 9, 2016.
- Lindsey Capritta is a senior at The Ohio State University and a native of Dublin. She is pursuing a degree in journalism, spurred on by her love of writing and the opportunity to explore a vast array of topics. She is also a big fan of theater, particularly Broadway productions, and tries to catch every show Broadway Across America brings to town. Besides the theater, her favorite local spot is the North Market. “I fell in love with it when I first moved here when I was little,” she says. “I have so many memories there, and there’s always something fun or unique to do.
- Katie Ellington is a senior at Asbury University, located in Wilmore, Ky. She hails from Bellville, Ohio, near Mansfield, and is studying for a double major in journalism and Spanish. She chose journalism in large part for the opportunity to meet interesting, new people and hear their stories. She was news editor of Asbury’s college newspaper, The Asbury Collegian, and was a committed cast member in her high school musicals. Among her passions are memoirs and jazz music. “I am obsessed with the old jazz standards,” she says. “Some of my favorite songs are performed by Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Etta James.”
- Hannah Herner of Norwalk, in northern Ohio, is a senior at The Ohio State University. She is majoring in public affairs journalism and is assistant arts and life editor at OSU’s student newspaper, The Lantern. Some of her key interests are alternative pop music, including such artists as St. Lucia and Marina and the Diamonds; roller skating; and, importantly, tap dancing, which she has been doing since age 5. Since coming to central Ohio to attend OSU, she has found Easton Town Center to be one of her favorite destinations. “There are a lot of good food and shopping choices, and it’s prime for people-watching,” she says.
- Hailey Stangebye is from southern Michigan, near the Indiana border, and is a junior at The Ohio State University. Her major is journalism: a reflection of her desire to immerse herself in her community and share its residents’ passions and ideas with the world. Her diverse interests include ballroom dancing, which she practices both socially and competitively, and, recently, mountain climbing: She ascended California’s Mt. Shasta in the last year. The recently reopened Short North Coffee House is her favorite place to spend time in Columbus. “They have a wonderful atmosphere, and they’re open 24 hours a day, for those of us who work on deadlines,” she says.
CityScene’s editorial interns will remain with the company until early August. In addition to writing and fact-checking stories, they will be getting involved in such community events as the New Albany Farmers Market and Dublin Irish Festival.
“We’re fortunate to have four smart, highly ambitious students serving as interns this summer,” says CityScene Media Group President and CEO Kathy Gill. “We look forward to furthering their education through our internship program and preparing them for their careers in journalism.”
