No Child Wet Behind Diaper Drive and Fundraiser: a 5K race & One Mile Family Fun Run/Walk
Dublin Community Recreation Center 5600 Post Road, Dublin, Ohio 43017
One in three Columbus families face a diaper need.
Columbus Birth & Parenting is holding its first annual No Child Wet Behind Diaper Drive and Fundraiser, a 5K race & One Mile Family Fun Run/Walk. The goal of this event is to promote awareness about the diaper insecurity in Central Ohio, and raise funds for Columbus Diaper Bank and No Child Wet Behind to help lighten families’ load.
Join us as we “Run for the One.”
The inaugural “No Child Wet Behind” 5K and 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk will help families struggling to provide sufficient diapers and making choices nobody should have to make. Babies left in soiled diapers are at high risk of severe rashes, scarring and infections. The child is unable to be consoled in a soiled diaper, which can lead to child abuse. Loved ones can also experience the stress and emotional heartbreak that comes from not being able to care for their baby.
Things to Know:
• In the state of Ohio, 28.3 percent of children under age 6 are poor, and 15 percent live in extreme poverty.
• Caregivers rely on food stamps and other federal programs to provide for their families, but diapers are not covered under the federal SNAP (food stamp) program.
• For low income women, not having enough diapers is a better predictor of a mother’s mental health than food insecurity.
