Whether you’re a parent who wants to teach your kids how to stay safe or just need to brush up on safety tips yourself, Safety Fest offers the chance to learn more in a fun, community atmosphere. Safety Fest will take place during this month’s Mount Carmel St. Ann’s 4th Friday celebration in collaboration with the Westerville Visitors and Convention Bureau and will teach children and adults how to stay safe in their homes, on the road, in the water and even online.
The Westerville Police Department will demonstrate the dangers of distracted and impaired driving with a driving simulator and officials from the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department will be in the courtyard discussing bike safety and the Ohio Attorney General’s office will provide information about identify theft, fraud and online security.
Other highlights include a display of proper safety attire and cycling equipment by Roll: Bicycle Shop, a self-defense demonstration by Xcel Martial Arts, a presentation on cleaning your bathroom exhaust fan and operating smoke detectors by the Westerville Division of Fire and a workshop on water safety and how to properly fit a personal floatation device.
Safety Fest is part of the monthly 4th Friday celebrations hosted by Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. In additional to themed activities, each 4th Friday brings more than 100 street vendors and food trucks to Uptown Westerville. As usual, Uptown shops and restaurants will be open late and there will be prize wheels scattered throughout Uptown. Safety Fest will also feature performances by the Westerville Puppet Posse and bounce houses sponsored by Heartland Bank.
This month’s 4th Friday entertainment will include performances by Legal Tender, The Leap of Faith Dance Co. and the Oasis City Church’s hip hop group on the AAA Ohio Auto Club Music Stage. Generations Performing Arts Center will be hosting a dance performance from 6-8 p.m. on W. College Avenue, followed by a demo by Xcel Martial Arts.
