Here is a roundup of some of our favorite strange Internet stories that have surfaced this past week.
Once Bitten, Thrice Fined
Uruguay’s soccer star, Luis Suarez, decided to take a bite out of an Italian player’s shoulder during a tie up at the World Cup. This is Suarez’s third time biting an opponent. His rap sheet also includes racial slurs against other teams. Despite the bite, Uruguay ended up winning 1-0.
Be Sure to Tip
An Alaskan restaurant owner braved flood waters to deliver Thai food to a couple in true heroic, Spongebob-esque fashion. The customers called in their order a little late, only to retract it because the weather was too rough, but the Anuson "Knott" Poolsawat wouldn’t let them go without.
Dairy Dues
At a D.C. function, ex-mayor Marion Barry took a firm stand against a proposed yogurt tax. The only problem? The tax proposal didn’t actually exist. He misheard “yoga” for “yogurt” and was quoted in saying “Yogurt is really more healthy than some other things, as is cottage cheese.” You can only imagine the crowds’ confusion.
Au Gratin Problem
A massive mashed potato spillage closed a North Yorkshire highway for a few hours. A road covered in spuds acts as quite the traffic hazard, but luckily the starch was cleared from the streets and commuters could continue through.
