Here is a roundup of some of our favorite strange Internet stories that have surfaced this past week.
It’s a Trap!
Sure, the occasional abrupt 70 mph to 55 speed change leaves us angry, but imagine a highway situation that goes from 65 to 55 to 45 to 55 to 45 to 55 and down to 35 within a few miles. Welcome to Waldo, Florida, one of two areas of the nation classified by AAA as an actual speed trap. About $500,000 was made this past year from court fines alone.

Burglary Ring
When you’re in the midst of a jewel heist and your back is against the wall, eat the evidence. That’s what Christina Schlegel did after being confronted for stealing Zales’ diamond ring with Bryan Ford. When officers searched the two suspects, they found nothing, until later when Schlegel was x-rayed and police found the several thousand dollar snack.
It Ain’t Easy Taming Sneezy
We’ve heard of horse, dog and cat whisperers, but now there’s a new smooth talker out there: the squirrel whisperer. A Penn State student, Mary Krupa, has befriended a campus squirrel that she has named Sneezy. Their relationship entails Krupa dressing up and feeding her furry pal.

Duck for Cover(age)
When a West Lafayette war vet returned home from Iraq, physical injury, trauma and anxiety plagued him. The Department of Veteran Affairs helped pay for his much-needed back surgery, but the mental assistance came from Darin Welker’s 14 adopted ducks. He says the ducks help keep him motivated and in high spirits, but an old town law restricts the harboring of fowl within its limits. Welker is currently fighting to keep his ducks at home.
