The philanthropic tide is rising in Columbus as more social enterprises innovate to not only make a profit, but also a meaningful impact on the community. The Sea Change Festival on Aug. 20 is the perfect chance to familiarize yourself with local socially conscious businesses.
The first annual Sea Change Festival will launch Aug. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at McFerson Commons.
Named to evoke a sense of transformation like the rise of an ocean tide, the Sea Change Festival celebrates the shifting priorities of inventive new businesses. The fest aims to inform buyers of brands and services that are more socially conscious so that people can catch the wave of informed consumption.
TOMS Shoes is one of the most well-known social enterprises. The company combines the goal of creating a profit with giving back to the community. For every pair of shoes purchased, the company donates a pair of shoes to someone in need.
Like TOMS, there are hundreds of companies in Ohio that are merging profit-oriented sustainability with nonprofit missions. Some of the more famous examples include Hot Chicken Takeover, CleanTurn and Freshbox Catering.
The Sea Change Festival is a chance to enjoy the vivacious spirit of Columbus, with craft breweries, food trucks, vendors and live music. The bands include Paper Morning, Yellow Paper Planes, The Cordial Sins and Indigo Wild.
Enjoy the festival and phenomenal food, all while checking out businesses at which you’ll be proud to shop.
Admission is free. Click here for more information on the Sea Change Festival.
