Step into the garden as Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse comes to the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center in Worthington on Nov. 11. This exhibition has been featured around the world, from as close as Cleveland to as far as the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
The film will take viewers on a journey to discover how contemporaries such as Monet built and cultivated modern gardens in pursuit of a more in-depth understanding of painting and the world around them.
Claude Monet, a French impressionist painter who lived from 1840-1926, considered himself a better gardener than painter, despite the fact that he is considered one of the greatest garden artists of all time. Perhaps known best for his series of water lily paintings around his sprawling property in Giverny, France, Monet’s work has indefinitely influenced plein air painting and impressionism.
Painting the Modern Garden also explores how garden painting has evolved throughout the years in other eras of art as well, through the 20th century, and various artists’ take on painting gardens. Featured alongside Monet will be Henri Matisse, Paul Klee, Emil Nolde, Gustav Klimt and Wassily Kandinksy among others.
Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse will be featured on screen at the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center in Worthington on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 online, or $15 at the door. Click here to purchase tickets online. For more information about the exhibition, click here.
