Those who want to share their family's history with an audience could get the chance this weekend.
A free casting event for Columbus Neighborhoods: New Americans, a segment of WOSU Public Media’s Emmy award-winning documentary series Columbus Neighborhoods, will be held 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday at the WOSU studios at COSI.
At "Share Your Heritage Day," participants whose families have been in Columbus for generations or who are recent arrivals will have the opportunity to talk about their heritage, the story of how they or their family arrived in central Ohio and the pride they have in their heritage.
The stories that are told will be video recorded and may be used in the development of the documentary, which will focus on the immigrant experience in Columbus.
There will also be a genealogist present from the Columbus Metropolitan Library who can teach how to trace one’s ancestry and will be able to archive mementos.
Premiering in the fall, Columbus Neighborhoods: New Americans, will look at the ways in which immigrant life shaped Columbus during its foundation and early years, as well as how new immigrants continue to contribute to Columbus’ culture and economy and the evolving American dream.
