The March of Dimes is holding its 36th annual Night Moves run on Sept. 16 to combat infant mortality and birth defects.
Night Moves is a nighttime run through downtown Columbus that flanks both sides of the Scioto River. The goal of the event is to raise $75,000 to support the March of Dimes.
Everyone who participates in the event will receive a glow necklace, T-shirt, blinker for safety purposes and other items from the event’s sponsors in a runner’s bag.
Participants in the event are also invited to attend a block party at the finish line. Included at the block party will be live music from The Usual Suspects and Repeat Offenders, food from Donatos Pizza and refreshments from the Actual Brewing Company.
Race officials ask that participants wear bright colors and anything that glows because the run will take place at night, as well as to bring cash and identification if racegoers wish to purchase beer and additional food after the race.
The March of Dimes Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Initially named the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis established to combat polio, the foundation changed its goal after the polio vaccine was developed. The March of Dimes’ new purpose is to raise awareness and help prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
The start line for the race, along with registration and packet pickup locations, will be at 333 W. Broad St. The five-mile race will begin at 7 p.m., shortly followed by the 5K race at 7:15 p.m.
Registration for the event costs $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the race. For more information on how to register, volunteer or donate, visit nightmoves.marchofdimes.org.
