The movie Paper Towns, based on the young adult novel by bestselling author John Green, is set to come out in just over a week, and Green and the cast are on a tour to promote the film –but not to the places you’d expect.
The tour stops at three cities: Indianapolis, Dallas, and – you guessed it – Columbus.
Fans got to choose which three states the tour would visit.
“We let people vote on Tumblr where they wanted us to go,” says Green, “and we’re basically
just going to the three states that won. So Ohio was actually first; it beat out California, Texas, much more populous states.”
Green, for one, was pleased about his fans’ choice of states.
“I love Ohio, I’m happy to be here,” he says. “I went to college not far away from here, so it’s kind of a homecoming for me. I was psyched when Ohio won.”
Akilah Hughes, YouTube personality and host of the Get Lost Get Found Tour, was equally as excited to be hosting the event in Columbus. “For me to be able to host alone in Columbus – this is my tri-state; I’m from Kentucky – it’s been amazing,” says Hughes.
Green and the cast all had very positive things to say about Paper Towns. Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff, who play Margo and Quentin, the film’s two leads, were particularly excited about their characters.
“I just think (John Green) writes really complex characters that aren’t stereotypes,” says Wolff. “I think it’s any actor’s dream to play a character like that.”
Paper Towns, directed by Jake Schreier and rated PG-13, will come out on July 24.
“I asked to see the movie before I agreed to do any press,” says Green. “I love it.”
