If you’re in the mood for Italian singing and theater then don’t miss out on the opera production of Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini, an Italian composer from the mid-nineteenth century. This one-act comedy opera is named after a local trickster in late thirteenth century Florence, Italy, who develops a clever plan at the bequest of a family to obtain their late patriarch’s wealth that he left to the monastery instead.
Gianni Schicchi will be sung in Italian with English supertitles with an orchestra of more than 25 musicians and performed by 15 central Ohio singers including Robert Kerr as Gianni Schicchi, Carolyn Redman as Zita, John Nevergall as Rinuccio, and Chelsea Hart as Lauretta.
The opera is the final production of the 2012-2013 season of Opera Project Columbus, a non-profit organization that was founded in 2011 to provide a creative and supportive community for Opera fans.
Gianni Schicchi will take place on June 15 at 8 p.m. and June 16 at 3 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus located at 1125 College Ave., Bexley, Ohio. Tickets are $35, which can be purchased at the door, by phone at 614-397-4950 and online at www.operaprojectcolumbus.org
