During Germany’s Oktoberfest in Munich, festival goers consume 1.9 million gallons of beer; Columbus may not be able to rival that, but between Sept. 23-25, Columbus residents have the opportunity to try.
The annual Columbus Oktoberfest kicks off its 50th year of authentic German food, drink and activities at the Ohio Expo Center and Ohio State Fairgrounds. The fest runs on Sept. 23 from 5 p.m. to midnight, Sept. 24 from noon to midnight and Sept. 25 from noon-8 p.m. It costs an estimated $5,000 to experience Oktoberfest in Munich, but admission into the Columbus event is free. Festivalgoers can purchase food and drink tickets for $10.
The event features activities for all ages, including the eighth annual Vier Meiler/Brat Trot, craft beer and wine gardens, a stone toss, live music and a parade for kids. German food at the event includes bratwurst, pretzels, cream puffs from Schmidt’s and more.
Oktoberfest events around the United States have had an economic impact on Munich by an estimated $1.2 billion. Munich’s celebration lasts between 16 and 18 days, but Columbus residents can jam pack their Oktoberfest experience into three days from Sept. 23-25. WalletHub ranks Columbus as the 13th best city nationwide to celebrate Oktoberfest.
