For one night and one night only, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra is ready to bring out your inner dancing queen. On Feb. 14, CSO is bringing back the 70s with ABBA the Concert, a tribute to the hit pop group. Under the direction of Resident Staff Conductor Albert-George Schram, the Orchestra will be playing much-loved fan favorites such as “Mamma Mia”, “Dancing Queen”, “Waterloo”, and “The Winner Takes It All”.
Formed in 1972 by four Swedish musicians, ABBA rose rapidly to popularity, putting out hit after hit, topping charts internationally and even winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. They would also eventually being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. Characterized by lavishly wild and bright costumes, fun music videos and catchy pop lyrics and melodies, ABBA quickly captured the hearts of music fans all around the world.
Though the group broke up in 1982, ABBA’s popularity has extended to younger generations with the massive success of the musical and its movie version, Mamma Mia.
The concert will take place at 8 p.m. Valentine’s Day at the Ohio Theatre. Tickets cost between $25 and $68 and can be purchased through both Ticketmaster and the CAPA Ticket Center.
