Everyone loves a classic fairy tale come to life, and the Columbus Children’s Theatre is doing just that. Long-time children’s favorite Pinocchio runs from Jan. 8-25 at the theatre, 512 Park St.
The tale of the little wooden puppet first was told by author Carlo Collodi in his 1883 novel entitled Adventures of Pinocchio. In the tale, a lonely woodcarver carves a wooden boy who dreams of becoming a real human. However, the young puppet is somewhat dishonest and prone to disobeying his father. Those traits get him into plenty of trouble. But in the end, he learns the merits of good and selfless deeds and is rewarded with becoming human.
The book met a certain popularity, and over the 1900s many versions of it were told through radio, movies, plays and musicals. The Disney adaptation, entitled simply Pinocchio, came out in 1940. While the movie may not be entirely faithful to its book origins, it has since been hailed as one of Walt Disney’s finest films.
The play is recommended for children ages 3 and older. Tickets may be purchased online at www.ColumbusChildrensTheatre.org or by calling 614-224-6672.
