Though the musical scores in Hollywood movies add to the drama, suspense or action that’s taking place on the screen, many people take them for granted.
Columbus Symphony Orchestra takes well-known scores from famous films including Star Wars, Jaws and Superman from the background to center stage, during its Hollywood Festival held Nov. 13-15 at the Ohio Theatre.

Conducted by Rossen Milanov, the festival will include the first Pops concert of the 2015-16 season, a family concert and two Masterworks concerts.
On Friday and Saturday, the Masterworks series will host classic film score performances featuring mezzo-soprano Sarah Mesko and the Columbus Symphony Chorus at 8 p.m., with songs from the movies Psycho, Lawrence of Arabia and Alexander Nevsky. In addition, Christopher Purdy will host a 30 minute pre-concert discussion about the shows at 7 p.m.
On Sunday at 2 p.m. there will be the family concert, John Williams for Kids. This hour-long show will feature themes from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Superman.
Also on Sunday will be the Pops show, the John Williams Spectacular. This concert will feature the Columbus Symphony Chorus, and will take place at 6 p.m., featuring music from a variety of different movies, including Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan and Schindler’s List.
Ticket prices range depending on the concert, but all tickets can be purchased at the CAPA Ticket Center, 39 E. State St, which will also be open two hours before each performance.
