Start your weekend off with some food, drinks and a free concert in downtown Columbus. Local indie folk-rock band Saintseneca will be playing this weekend at the Columbus Commons, the first in a series of summer concerts produced by the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation.
Saintseneca founder Zac Little started the band in 2007 as a teenager growing up in a small Appalachian town in southeastern Ohio. The band found its footing and solidified its current lineup when Little moved to Columbus to attend the Ohio State University. Saintseneca quickly became popular in the Columbus punk scene and continues to integrate punk, rock and pop elements into its meditative folk songs. While the band’s lyrics often contain somber themes and obscure imagery, its songs are also characterized by sweet, subtle harmonies and a variety of instruments: from banjos and baritone ukuleles to the bulbul, baglama and bouzouki.
The concert is part of the city of Columbus’ Bike to Work Day celebration. Columbus Public Health will be celebrating recent efforts to make it easier to ride bikes in the city by acknowledging the business that were designated “bike friendly” over the last year and releasing a new Columbus Metro bike map. There will be drinks and food trucks at the event.
Yay Bikes! will be providing complimentary bike valet parking and guests who ride a CoGo bike to the Columbus Commons station between 5 and 6 p.m. will be entered to win a prize.
The Bike to Work Day celebration and Saintseneca concert begin Friday at 5 p.m. For more information about the event, visit www.columbus.gov/b2w2016. For more National Bike Month events in Columbus, visit www.columbus.gov/bikemonth2016.
