WOSU’s Emmy-award winning series “Columbus Neighborhoods” will feature the South Side of Columbus when it airs Sept. 16 at 8 p.m.
This installment will highlight the success of Hungarian and Appalachian migrants in the community. It will showcase the area’s foundation of steel and glass which still holds strong today. Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s positive effect will be a main focus.
The documentary will also examine the Merion Village revival.
However, the seventh chapter of the documentary isn’t a completely happy story. It will also shed light on the rise and fall of some of the south side’s most prosperous industries, like Buckeye Steel Castings. It will also show the efforts put forth to solve substandard housing and health care provisions.
This series was honored the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s 2012 Artistic Excellence Award.
