Bang on a Can All-Stars finishes February tour at OSU
A genre-hopping sextet known for dynamic live performances and innovative musical style is making a stop in Columbus at the end of the month.
The Bang on a Can All-Stars brings its talents to Columbus for a performance at The Ohio State University’s Weigel Auditorium at 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29.
The concert features a program of songs from the All-Stars’ core repertoire that shows the musical expertise and talent of each of the group members.
The Bang on a Can All-Stars consists of six musicians: Ashley Bathgate on cello, Robert Black on bass, Vicky Chow on piano, David Cossin on percussion, Mark Stewart on guitar and Ken Thomson on clarinet.
David Lang’s “Sunray,” Julia Wolfe’s “Believing” and Philip Glass’ “Closing” are just a few of the pieces featured on 2012’s Big Beautiful Dark and Scary, the All-Stars’ latest recording, which will be played during the concert.
The group makes a habit of collaborating with inspiring and creative musicians, with recent examples including Steve Reich, DJ Spooky and Burmese drum circle master Kyaw Kyaw Naing. The group was named Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year in 2005.
The All-Stars formed in 1992 and performs throughout the United States as well as internationally every year.
The concert is free and open to the public.
