National Dance Day is coming up on July 25, and you don’t have to be an experienced dancer to
celebrate.
BalletMet Dance Academy will celebrate the holiday with free indoor and outdoor dance classes open to dancers of any skill level in the second annual Let’s Move Columbus! event.
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. with an outdoor dance class led by BalletMet’s Dance Academy Director Timothy Lynch. The outdoor class will take place in the Topiary Park in the Discovery District and will be open to anyone ages 3 and up.
BalletMet will also offer indoor classes throughout the day at its professional studios, located at 322 Mt. Vernon Ave. The indoor classes will begin with ballet at 12 p.m., and will continue with hip-hop at 1 p.m. and jazz at 2 p.m. Dancers ages 7 and up are welcome to participate.
Younger dancers who wish to join in the fun can participate in BalletMet’s Creative Movement classes, which are open to anyone ages 3-7 and will take place every hour on the hour from 12-3 p.m.
In addition to the dance classes, Let’s Move Columbus! will also include costume dress-up, crafts, and tours of the BalletMet studios and costume shop.
As an extra perk, all attendees of Let’s Move Columbus! will have the opportunity to purchase tickets for select performances of BalletMet’s The Nutcracker at a 50 percent discount, as well as copies of BalletMet’s own children's book, Leap and Twirl, at 10 percent off.
