CAPA and The Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences present The Plough and the Stars.
Sean O’Casey, an Irish writer, performed the original production of The Plough and the Stars in 1926, but you can see it Oct. 26-30 in Columbus at the Southern Theatre.
The Southern Theatre’s website describes the production as, “The story of ordinary lives ripped apart by the idealism of the time, as residents of a Dublin tenement seek shelter from the violence sweeping through the city’s streets.”
The four-act production displays what life was like in Ireland while the Irish were fighting against British rule. The Easter Rising is the six-day rebellion that resulted from this enormous conflict. The Plough and the Stars will take the audience through the hardships of this rebellion, and demonstrate how it affected those involved from their perspectives.
100 years after the Easter Rising, the Abbey Theatre, also known as the National Theatre of Ireland, invites you to its production of The Plough and the Stars at Columbus’ Southern Theatre on 21 E. Main St. Many directors have reinvented this masterpiece but you don’t want to miss Olivier Award-winning director Sean Holmes’ production.
Show times for The Plough and the Stars are Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 28 and 29 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $38-$68 at the CAPA Ticket Center.
