
They may not fly, but the women dressed in black and white will aim to lift audience members' spirits when Sister Act opens in Columbus April 28 at the Palace Theatre.
The musical, produced by Whoopi Goldberg, TROIKA Entertainment, and Sister Act On Tour, LLC, has received five 2011 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. The original score was composed by Golden Globe Award-winning composer Alan Menken, who also composed music for The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast and Enchanted. Tony and Academy Award-nominee Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid) contributed lyrics.
The well-known story features Deloris Van Cartier, who lands in protective custody in a nunnery after witnessing a murder. The musical, based on the popular film, features music including Motown, soul, funk and disco.
