Lyrics to Anberlin's most notable hit single, "Feel Good Drag," seem to define the lifespan of the band: "Was this over before it ever began?"
While the rock group stuck around for more than twelve years, it seemed like a blink of an eye for many lifelong fans. And for those fans, Anberlin dedicate its last tour, rightfully named The Final Tour, which made a sold out stop at the Newport Nov. 10.
With no openers to prime the stage, the band came out and played 23 songs and one encore tune. On the menu for the night were mainstays "Feel Good Drag," "Godspeed," "Impossible" and "Paperthin Hymn."
Anberlin pulled out all the stops for the show, digging deep into its archive to play some hidden fan favorites, such as "The Haunting" and "Inevitable." A combination of acoustic tunes and heavy, upbeat jams made the setlist one to remember.
Before Anberlin made its final bow, fittingly, the band played "*Fin." For the entirety of the eight-minute mellow song, the packed-in crowd sang along one final last time.
"Thank you so much for being here through all the years," says front man Stephen Christian. "For seven years, this has all been for you."
NOV. 11, 2014: Rock outfit calls it quits after seven albums - but not before a few stops around the country.
