Each year, students at The Ohio State University give back to the city of Columbus through volunteer community service and, while there are many days of service per school year for students to partake in through OSU, Community Commitment Day is one of the largest.
The annual event takes place during Welcome Week, the period of time between move-in day and the day when classes officially start. The single-day event begins Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 8 a.m.
The week is filled with fun back-to-school activities, concerts, festivals, games and, of course, free food.
This time is designed to bring students back together on campus, and reinvigorate the Buckeye spirit. Community Commitment is just one of the activities students can do.
More than 2,000 Buckeyes will descend on Columbus, joining various community agencies to provide services all over the city. The volunteers will participate in clean-up crews, serve meals and assist in various offices and education based activities.
Students will report to the Ohio Union in the morning where they will receive their assignments and then bussed to their locations for work until 2 p.m.
For registration or any other questions, send an email to payitforward@osu.edu.
