Positive wellness benefits of owning a pet
Having a lovable, faithful companion around the house can improve your health.
According to an article on WebMD, researchers have noted that pet owners often have lower cholesterol than non-pet owners, and it suggests that they are less likely to contract heart disease and more likely to live a longer life.
In addition, pets can improve mental and emotional health, as the article suggests that pets can help manage stress, fight depression and boost your mood. In fact, one study from Newswise shows that people experience less stress during a stressful task with a pet rather than with a spouse or close friend.
Other health benefits from owning a pet include:
- Fewer visits to the doctor’s office;
- More exercise, particularly with dog owners;
- Stronger immunity and fewer allergies in babies.
