Here Comes the Bloom
Museum’s art becomes floral art for biennial fundraiser
Instead of its permanent collection, visitors to the Columbus Museum of Art this weekend can get a look at its perennial (and annual) collection.
The museum’s biennial Art in Bloom exhibition, in which artwork from the permanent collection is reimagined as floral arrangements, runs March 17-20. A total of 45 arrangers contributed to the exhibition this year.
This year’s show marks the 70th anniversary of the Beaux Arts Auxiliary, the museum support group that organizes it. Proceeds benefit learning experiences for families and students at the museum.
Arts and crafts by local artisans will be available at a marketplace over the weekend.
Events over the course of Art in Bloom include:
-An opening night reception – with hors d’ouevres, drinks and music – from 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $100.
-A VIP preview from 9-11 a.m. Friday. Tickets are $25 and include a $10 gift certificate to the museum’s new Schokko Art Café.
-A workshop on artisanal flower arrangement by floral design expert Hitomi Gilliam from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $250.
-A rundown on NeoFlora, the newest movement in floral design, by Gilliam from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $60 and include refreshments.
-A family-friendly open studio including collage, pressed plant material and other media from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
