On Feb. 20, Chamber Music Columbus will welcome Imani Winds, a Grammy-nominated wind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn, at 8 p.m. in the Southern Theatre.
Incorporating European, American, African and Latin American traditions, Imani Winds refers to its unique sound as “the Imani Way.” Their playing blurs the lines of genre and straddles multiple categories like Afro-Pop, jazz and Latin swing, often in the same concert.
Described by The Washington Post as "exuding a sultry sophistication during performances,” Imani Winds has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. It has also shown a dedication to music education. The group gives master classes to thousands of students each year, and began its annual Chamber Music Institute, a weeklong intensive Julliard program for undergraduate and post-graduate music students, in 2010.
