History is being made this spring at the Franklin Park Conservatory as a rare "century plant," otherwise known as agave americana, is blooming for the first time in 20 years. In its natural habitat, this plant grows for 20-30 years before producing a 20-30 foot flowering stalk that blooms and then dies, leaving behind "pups" at is base to continue its life cycle. Experts at the conservatory guestimate the plant will be in full bloom within the next week or so.
