Opera Columbus features a new, modern take on the production of one of the most popular operas of all time: Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème.
This production, which is usually a six-hour affair in strictly Italian, will be modified to an hour-long, abridged version told and sung in English. This allows for the production to be enjoyed by theater enthusiasts and newbies alike who either don’t know Italian, or aren’t prepared to sit through a six-hour performance.
La Bohème tells the story of how the broke Rodolfo and the beautiful Mimi first met and the following romantic – yet conflicting – relationship. Their relationship is told through the eyes of librettist Joel Ivany.
Opera Columbus is teaming up with Shadowbox Live’s very own Executive Producer and CEO, Stev Guyer. With the creative Guyer, audiences can be sure to expect the unexpected from this already contemporary, abridged production of La Bohème.
La Bohème is a part of Opera Columbus’ Opera on the Edge performances. These performances bring a contemporary twist to some of the most popular opera shows. Opera on the Edge performances were created for those who might not have the time or interest to see a traditional opera performance. It also enables those without the knowledge or experience of going to traditional operas to enjoy the performance.
The first performance takes place Oct. 15, and runs select Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Fridays through Dec. 5.
Tickets to Opera Columbus cost $10, and tickets to see the production of La Bohème at the Refectory cost $95. The price of a ticket to see the production at the Refectory includes a four-course dinner with a preset menu. Shadowbox Live encourages potential ticketholders to make reservations ahead of time.
