The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts has announced the 10 local high schools selected to participate in the first-ever CAPA Marquee Awards. Designed to recognize and celebrate the wealth of high-caliber musical theatre talent in central Ohio.

Throughout the 2018-19 season, musical theatre students from these participating high schools will be invited to attend free master classes and talk-back opportunities with touring Broadway cast members and local/touring talent in their chosen field of interest.
On June 3, the CAPA Marquee Awards will culminate with a red-carpet ceremony and student showcase at the Lincoln Theatre at which winners in all categories will be announced.
Modeled after the Tony Awards, the CAPA Marquee Awards will showcase live performances from the nominees for Best Musical Production, as well as opening and closing numbers that incorporate nominated students from all participating high schools.
Students selected as Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Leading Role will be designated as official Jimmy Award nominees and receive a CAPA-sponsored trip to attend “Jimmys Week” in New York City, a nine-day professional training intensive with theatre professionals and industry experts, and compete on the national level for the 2019 Jimmy® Awards for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress.

A Trip to NYC!

Winners Maeve Gallagher and Caleb Jingo were awarded a CAPA-sponsored trip to New York City to attend “Jimmys Week,” a nine-day professional training intensive with theatre professionals and industry experts June 17-25, and to compete for the 2019 Jimmy® Awards for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress given at The Jimmy Awards® ceremony at the Minskoff Theatre on June 24.
About Maeve Gallagher
Maeve Gallagher is a junior at Dublin Jerome High School where she has appeared in Fame! (Mabel), Disney’s Aladdin (Kassim), and Into the Woods(Cinderella). At Tantrum Theater, she has performed as a fairy in A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as Little Red Riding Hood in Imagine Productions’ rendition of Into the Woods. Gallagher has been an active participant in her high school’s drama camp (grades 1-10) as a camper, counselor, and performer. In addition to theatre, she is also a member of the varsity field hockey team and symphonic choir, and enjoys studying history, religion, and Spanish. Upon graduating, Gallagher hopes to attend the University of Virginia to further pursue her love of history and art.
About Caleb Jingo
Jingo is an alumnus of Westerville South High School, where he was heavily devoted to Theatre Troupe 513. He served on the theatre board for two consecutive seasons as public relations officer and troupe president. Credits include Catch Me If You Can (Carl Hanratty) and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Christopher Boone). He earned the title of International Honor Thespian and was recognized as Troupe 513’s Best Thespian and Best Actor in the 2018-19 season. Jingo is a three-time participant of the All-Ohio Show, performing in Carrie: The Musical (Stokes), Letters to Sala (Chaim Kaufman), and Once on This Island (Storyteller). He won the 2018 BroadwayWorld Columbus Awards for Best Lead Actor in a Play (Educational) and Best Supporting Actor in a Play (Educational), both from his work on Westerville South’s Twelfth Night (Sebastian). Outside of theatrical endeavors, Jingo enjoys studying piano, puppetry, and American Sign Language. He volunteers through his membership in the National Honor Society and works part-time wrapping burritos at Chipotle. Caleb plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre at Ohio Northern University.
