New Albany opens its first art gallery

New Albany will get its very own art gallery when Hayley Gallery opens its doors on Thursday, Nov. 8 at an official ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. Located at the site of the original New Albany fire house at 45 Second St., sweeping 12 foot ceilings are complemented by natural light flooding through large bay windows that for more than 50 years served as fire truck bays.

More than 200 individual pieces will fill 2,350 feet of dramatic, museum-inspired space. Original works to be offered for sale include oils, acrylics, photography, mixed media, blown glass, jewelry, sculpture, metalwork, furniture, accessories and tile. Custom framing services will also be available. The tagline “Be Original – Buy Original” was chosen to encourage buyers to choose one-of-a-kind pieces for their home and office to reflect their own individual style and personality.

Hayley Savage, owner of Hayley Gallery, is a relative newcomer to the Columbus area by way of Chicago and New York. She used her connections throughout the art world to debut “Art in New Albany” in May of 2007 at a fundraiser which Savage created on behalf of Temple Beth Shalom. After 25 years as a marketing executive, the success of “Art in New Albany” reignited her decades-long passion to become a gallery owner.

"Hayley Gallery will feature the works of over 35 artists, the majority of whom live right here in Ohio. By design, this not only puts collecting original artwork well within reach of collectors, it gives talented local artists a unique and dynamic venue to showcase their work while affording better known artists access to New Albany and the surrounding areas,” Savage says.

"Hayley has made a significant commitment to furthering the arts in New Albany by opening Hayley Gallery in our downtown”, addsd New Albany Mayor Nancy Ferguson. “With the opening of the 750-seat McCoy Community Center for the Arts in February, 2008, New Albany’s first Arts Festival planned for next summer and the opening of Hayley Gallery, New Albany is poised to become a premier destination for the arts”.

A grand opening party takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. Columbus fine art photographer Debbie Rosenfeld, Toledo painter Kim Thanasiu and Cincinnati sculptor John Hegener and his partner, painter Deborah Lapatina are among those who will be on hand. In addition, William DeBilzan, who counts Adam Sandler and Tony Hawk as collectors and highly acclaimed French artist Clemente Mimun are traveling to Columbus to attend the opening and discuss their original oil paintings that will be featured in the gallery.
