Bexley is hosting its 2nd annual Bexley Walk on Nov. 13, when guests are invited to walk Main Street and visit the four open galleries for a little art appreciation, including Art Access, Schumacher Gallery (located on the fourth floor of Capital University’s library), Bryan H. Roberts Gallery and Hammond Harkins Galleries.
“All the galleries are open from 5 to 8 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and treats. There is a party in each gallery and sometimes the (exhibited) artists are in town,” says Barb Unverferth, co-owner of Art Access.
While this is only the second year for the official Bexley Walk, the city has done similar events prior. It was only until last year when the city gave it a name. The galleries will feature work by a mix of local artists or artists from the area who have since moved.
Curated by James Keny of Keny Galleries, Schumacher Gallery is honoring the work of the late Alice Schille, focusing on her early years from 1902 to 1914. Key pieces of her work from the Dutch, Dalmatian, and Le Puy series will be on display.
“Alice Schille was a Columbus resident,” says Cassandra Tellier, director of Schumacher Gallery, “This will be devoted to the painted works on which she built her reputation in the first decades of the 20th century.”
Bryan H. Roberts Gallery is presenting its “Autumn Salon Show,” a show consisting of new works by Fered Doloresco, Mark Gingerich and Yan Sun, among others. Art Access will have its Landscapes exhibit on display, with art by Perry Brown, Valerie Craig and Joe Lombardo.
“Everybody’s out walking place to place, there are big crowds - it’s a fun event,” says Unverferth, “It gets a lot of people out.”
This event, similar to Gallery Hop in the Short North, will also include open shops in the area also serving hors d’oeuvres, as well as wine. All restaurants will be open. The four galleries are located near the intersection of East Main and Drexel. For more information on the event, visit www.bexley.org.
