The American Story
Thurber House presents Bruce Feiler

At 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16, the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Ave., hosts the final Thurber House Evenings with Authors event this season, with Bruce Feiler, New York Times bestselling author of eight books, including Walking the Bible and Where God was Born.

Feiler is also the host of the PBS series Walking The Bible and a frequent commentator on National Public Radio, CNN and Fox News. His new book, America's Prophet: Moses and the American Story, reveals the relationship between Moses and the shaping of America during the last 400 years.

Meticulously researched, this detailed journey through America's past retells history from a new perspective, that of a people seeking the prophet who will lead them to the Promised Land. Feiler writes, “For four hundred years, one figure stands out as the surprising symbol of America. One person has inspired more Americans than any other. One man is America's true founding father. His name is Moses.”

During hard times, Feiler says that America has turned to the Exodus story for direction and he cites the examples of Franklin and Jefferson, who proposed that Moses appear on the U.S. seal and the fact that the Statue of Liberty was molded in his likeness.

Following the reading, Feiler will take questions, chat with the audience about his writing and sign books that will be available for purchase. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door, with discounts for students and seniors. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 614-464-1032 or visit www.thurberhouse.org.
