CAPA/Broadway showcase classic Hitchcock

By Katelynn Cole

In a performance never before shown in Columbus, four actors will take the stage Jan. 19-24 for Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps, presented by CAPA and Broadway Across America - Columbus.

The New York Post has called this production “the most entertaining show on Broadway!"

The story that began with a novel by John Buchan and later adapted into a Hitchcock film in 1935, now tours the country as a Broadway show. Directed by Maria Aitken, the humorous, Monty Python-esque thriller makes its Columbus debut Jan. 19-24 at the Palace Theatre, 34 W. Broad St.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the stage show is the depiction of 150 characters created through just four total actors.

“The story is very clear and well-structured. We have a great director and the four actors differentiate their 150 characters so dexterously that we’ve never once had a complaint of confusion,” says Patrick Barlow, writer of the stage adaptation.

The three men and one woman who perform in the show have earned it two Tony Awards and two Drama Desk Awards, including the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.

In two hours full of murder, mayhem and several quick outfit changes, The 39 Steps is sure to be a show unlike any other. For more information, visit www.capa.com or www.broadwayacrossamerica.com.
