“To know, understand, and enjoy the world” is the Pickerington Public Library’s motto. In October the library is practicing what it preaches, with educational events for library patrons.

From 6:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 27, the library will host “Pocketbooks are Shrinking,” a seminar inspired by fashion gurus and sponsored by the Ohio State University Fairfield County Extension. Extension educator Cora French-Robinson will share tips on battling the tough economic times and suggestions for living on less, as well as reusing and recycling. The program will teach participants to embrace a frugal lifestyle and live within a budget. The event is free and registration is required.

Just a few days later, the library will offer a Web-specific writing tutorial. From 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Oct. 31, “How to Write for the Web” will feature three authors who regularly appear in the online magazine Suite 101: Brenda Layman, an outdoors writer, Jerry Lopper, creator of The Balanced Life E-Course, and Chris Eirschele, a garden specialist and Pickerington resident. The instructors will discuss the basics of writing professionally for online publications, the difference between print and Web publishing and online marketing outlets, including blogging and Facebook. Space is limited and registration is required.

To register for these events or for more information, call the Pickerington Public Library at 614-837-4104 or visit www.pickeringtonlibrary.org.
