Sunbear Studio preps for annual art sale

Sunbear Studio's 5th Annual Fall Open House and Sale is Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Nov. 9, from noon to 5 p.m.

The studio is located at 3658 Ohio Route 605, in Center Village. It is a quaint, restored town hall located just five miles north of New Albany. The old town hall was restored by Meredith Martin, who owns the studio, and her friend Fred Hostetler. It opened as a working studio and gallery in 2003.

The gallery now is home to a group of local and regional artists and their work - all of whom are friends of Meredith Martin, owner and resident pastel painter. Many are artists she met while doing fairs and festivals throughout the country and have been showing regularly at Sunbear since the studio opened.

Each year, new artists are added, and the open house is their biggest event of the year. For holiday spirit, the show features an "art ornament" tree with original holiday decorations created by the artists, original art as door prizes, and this year, one of Martin's large works will be raffled to benefit pancreatic cancer research.

The open house will also feature sale-priced original art in the outdoor sale tent - called the "Economic Bailout Bargain Tent." Refreshments and beverages are served, and live music will be offered on Saturday.
