(More Than) One Song... Glory!
Adam Pascal will perform his interpretation of Broadway songs old and new as well as his own original modern rock songs from solo albums Model Prisoner and Civilian when CAPA welcomes him to the Southern Theatre (21 E. Main St.) on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.
In 1996, Pascal made an unforgettable Broadway debut as Roger in
Rent. Since then, he has successfully mixed his original dream of being a rock star with a flourishing career on stage and screen, with roles in the movie adaptation of
Rent, SLC Punk! and
School of Rock.
Pascal’s breakout performance as Roger, the songwriter trying to find his “One Song” in
Rent was not his original plan for fame — he wanted to be a rock star. On the advice of a friend, he auditioned for the role when
Rent was still Off-Broadway. The show took off, and with it, so did Pascal’s career in musical theatre. He followed
Rent with the lead role Radames in Elton John and Tim Rice’s hit musical
Aida in 2000. But he was still working on his solo career, and released his debut album
Model Prisoner shortly after opening in
Aida.
Pascal continued his rise through Broadway’s ranks in 2001, taking the role of the emcee in the Tony-winning revival of
Cabaret. He then returned for the final weeks of
Aida to reprise his role in 2004. He also released his second album that year,
Civilian, an intensely personal album dealing with the tragedy of 9/11 and, on the other end of the spectrum, the joy of becoming a father.
Pascal has also made his mark in Hollywood. He, along with most of the original cast, reprised his Broadway role of Roger in the 2005 film adaptation of
Rent. Pascal’s first movie appearance was in
SLC Punk! in 1998, followed by
School of Rock with Jack Black in 2003 and the indie film
Temptation in 2004. He appeared on the CBS drama
Cold Case and has two more movies slated for this year,
Goyband and
American Primitive.
