Vintage Motorcycle Days hits Mid-Ohio July 9-11

By Rae Hellard

If you are a die-hard motorcycle enthusiast or just an interested passerby, the American Motorcyclist Association’s 19th annual celebration of vintage motorcycles is bound to have something that revs your engine. Every year, thousands of people flock to this festival of historical and rare motorcycles held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. July 9-11, local riders will want to prepare for the thrilling extravaganza coming their way.

Vintage Motorcycle Days is host to many different seminars, shows, races, swaps and demo rides that invite guests to interact with the products. Often considered the highlight of the event, the championship vintage racing competition allows experienced riders to compete in motocross, hare scrambles, trials and road/off-road racing. Championship titles include AMA Track Racing Vintage Grand Champion and Off-Road Racing Vintage Grand Champion, as well as an invitation with honors to the AMA Racing banquet this winter.

This occasion hosts hundreds of independent vendors that bring their classic merchandise for all to see, and guests can buy or sell their exceptional bikes, accessories, and memorabilia. Vintage Motorcycle Days also includes several modern representatives with the New Product Manufacturer’s Midway, where the latest products are showcased by top-notch retailers.

For those guests interested in testing out a motorcycle, there are several models available for a test-run. Among other representatives like Triumph, KYMCO and KTM North America, a unique brand of roadster bikes will be presented for demonstrations this year. The Can-Am Spyder roadster, an atypical three-wheeled vehicle from Bombardier Recreational Products, is a new addition to the AMA demo lineup. These machines are versatile and smooth-riding, with an improved stability system and 5-speed transmission complete with reverse. A historical brand that is most known for products of the 1970s and ‘80s, Can-Am is bringing something new to motorcyclist devotees at Vintage Motorcycle Days. If you have any interest at all in classic motorcycles, you won’t want to miss one of  North America’s largest vintage conventions held right here in Ohio.
