Making Local History Fun
Historical society teams with business association for special events

The Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Society has partnered with the Olde Pickerington Village Business Association to showcase local history this spring and summer.

Shops and restaurants in Old Pickerington Village are housed in historical buildings such as the former Patrick & Exline Grocery (now Park Alley Tavern), Hanna Auto Repair and Residence (now Resale Furniture and Feather Your Nest), Cyrus Smith Grocery (now B.J.’s Bouquets) and Moore’s Restaurant and Pool Hall (now Deblin Design and Solomon’s Carpet), to name a few.

The focal point of the Olde Village is the Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Museum, located at 15 E. Columbus St. and built in 1916 as the Carnegie Library. Admission to the museum is free - it is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the rest of 2010. The museum, along with Olde Village shops and restaurants, also will be open to participate in the following spring and summer events:

May 7, 5-8 p.m. – Diva Night. Kids and adults can dress in vintage clothing at the historical museum. Portraits will be available for a $5 donation. Also find special deals and free gifts at Olde Village businesses.

June 4, 5-9 p.m. – Vintage car/motorcycle show on Columbus Street (registration 5-7:30 p.m.) and Strawberry Social at the historical museum.

July 2, 5-8 p.m. – History Hop. Local history comes alive through a tour of Olde Pickerington Village buildings dating back to the 1800s and early 1900s. Also enjoy a broom-making demonstration at the historical museum.

August 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Olde Village Flea Market. Find bargains at Olde Village businesses, residences and the historical museum.

Olde Pickerington Village is located on Route 256 (Columbus Street) approximately 5 miles south of I-70.
