Local concert to fund honor flight

Various Westerville community groups, businesses and citizens have come together to host an event with a philanthropic goal: providing local World War II veterans with the trip of a lifetime.

The Honor Flight Holiday Concert, benefitting Honor Flight Columbus, will begin at 2 p.m. Dec. 27 at Cowan Hall at Otterbein College. Proceeds from the event will benefit the next local honor flight in 2010, which takes World War II veterans on a guided tour of the National World War II monument in Washington, D.C.

NBC4 anchor and Westerville resident Cabot Rea will host and perform in the concert, presented as a variety show. Other performers include Columbus resident Otoniel "Tony" Gonzaga, a tenor who has performed internationally, and 6-year-old Gavin George, a piano prodigy from Granville. The show will feature World War II-era music and holiday tunes, as well as The Continental Band performing swing music standards from the era.

Tickets to the show are $20 for adults and $10 for seniors (age 65 and older) and students (age 12 and younger). World War II veterans will be admitted at no charge.
