Gahanna gears up for the holidays

As the holiday season approaches, Gahanna is gearing up for its 10th annual Holiday Lights! Parade & Festival.

Join Grand Marshal Mike Purdum, owner of the Old Bag of Nails, on Nov. 29, as Gahanna heralds the season with the parade of lights. This year the parade will feature nearly 100 lighted floats and a record-breaking number of high school marching bands.

The festivities, beginning at 8 a.m., includes activities for the entire family holiday set in  historic Olde Gahanna. Events include Holiday Story Time Breakfast, Santa’s Secret Workshop and the opportunity to visit with Santa himself.

There will also be children’s crafts and games, artisans, holiday cuisine, horse-drawn holiday rides, entertainment, the popular Olde Gahanna Community Partnership Festival of Trees silent auction, unique offerings at a variety of downtown establishments, the premier of the new Creekside development, and, of course, the Holiday Lights Parade.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. and will feature both community designed and professionally constructed floats, horse drawn carriages and a host of other dazzling surprises, along with post-parade fun. The 10th anniversary of the Holiday Lights! Parade & Festival will also boast five marching bands - Gahanna Lincoln High School Marching Lions, Clyde High School Marching Band, LaGrange High School Keystone Band, Southeastern High School Marching Band and Valley Forge High School Marching Band - as well as the Buckeye Brass Band.

In addition to the parade and festival, visitors strolling along the boardwalk on the banks of Big Walnut Creek will discover Winter Wonderland at Creekside Park, from Nov. 29 to Jan. 5. The display entails light displays set against a beautiful winter backdrop.
