It's Got Groove, It's Got Meaning ...
The original high school musical, Grease, will make its way to Columbus' Palace Theatre Dec. 16-21, featuring American Idol's Season Five winner Taylor Hicks playing the part of Teen Angel.
Broadway Across America - Columbus' show is based on the Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey all-American production that earned Time magazine's pick for No. 1 musical in 2007. The show takes place at Rydell High School, where Danny Zuko and his gang - the T-Birds - romance their sassy female classmates - the Pink Ladies.
When "good-girl" Sandy Dumbrowski arrives in town, the Pink Ladies take her under their wing, while Danny tries to woo her with his "bad-boy" style. The seemingly incompatible characters chase love throughout the summer and end up stumbling upon it at an unexpected time.
In 1978, Grease hit the big screen powered by John Travolta as Danny and Olivia Newton-John as Sandy. A Broadway revival played from 1994-98.
The rekindled production features songs from the original that helped catapult the story into a classic, including Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, We Go Together, Sandy, Grease is the Word, You're the One That I Want and Hopelessly Devoted to You.
