Debbie Rosenfeld's exhibit to benefit Cubans

Local artist Debbie Rosenfeld has 26 of her Cuban documentary images currently on exhibit at the Wexner Jewish Student Center/OSU Hillel, 46 E. 16th Ave. The show runs through Nov. 18.

Two of the images in the exhibit were previously shown at ImageOhio9 which was juried by Paula Tognarelli – curator of the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, Mass.

In early 2008, Rosenfeld traveled with members of Tifereth Israel on a Mission to Cuba via B’nai B’rith. The group met with the Jewish communities in Cuba and visited three congregations in Havana – an Orthodox, a Conservative, and a Sephardic synagogue. The group also participated in home visits to some of the families/individuals who are beneficiaries of the B’nai B’rith Tzedakah (charity) project.

The artist asks exhibit visitors to donate food items and personal hygiene items that are listed at the center. Collection bins will be available on site. Donated items will be forwarded to Florida and taken by B’nai B’rith when they go on their next mission to Cuba in December. Requested items include vacuum packed tuna and other non-perishable items.

After defecting from the corporate world, Rosenfeld now works as a full-time/self taught artist. Her award-wining work has been accepted into numerous juried shows, most recently by David Pagel, art critic for the LA Times and Nannette Macijunes, director of the Columbus Museum of Art.

Many of Rosenfeld’s Cuban images may be seen on her Web site, www.debbierphotography.com.
