Hanby House celebrates Christmas with historical programming

 

Westerville's historical Hanby House will once again offer special holiday programming this season.

 

Holiday programming at the house, located at 160 W. Main St., will include period Christmas decor and guides dressed in period costumes, who will inform guests about the home's history and its famous occupants. these include Bishop William Hanby, who co-founded Otterbein College, and his son Benjamin Hanby, a teacher, minister and composer who wrote the songs "Darling Nelly Gray" and "Up on the Housetop."

 

During the special holiday programs, music performances on piano, violin and dulcimer will fill the house. There will also be snacks and refreshments for visitors, as well as special souvenirs and treats for sale. Admission to the events is $2 for adults and 75 cents for kids ages 6-12. AAA members will receive discounted admission, and Hanby Club and Ohio Historical Society members will receive free admission.

 

The Hanby holiday programs will run on the following dates: from 7-9 p.m. Dec. 1; from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 5; and from 1-4:30 p.m. Dec. 6.
