Columbus Academy Antiques Show celebrates its 27th anniversary

For the 27th year, the Columbus Academy Antiques Show will be supplying antique enthusiasts with Central Ohio’s best and most-anticipated selection of furnishings, art and collectibles from days gone by. The event, Antiques for Houses Big and Small, will be taking place the weekend of April 28-29 and consists of an appraisal fair, general show and two lectures.

This year’s show will host exhibitors from 14 states, including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Georgia and Maryland. Among the items at the exhibition are antiques from France, Russia, England and China.

Lecturers will include Lucille Wilson, a former schoolteacher and long-time host of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. She will be speak on the architecture, art and legacy of the estate, which is a National Historic Landmark. Furthermore, Wilson will conduct a second lecture about turn of the century entertaining.

Additional events at the show are a lobby exhibit on miniatures organized by the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME) and the Miniature Shop and a Gala Preview Party. Guests of the Gala Preview Party will enjoy cocktails and food from Columbus-area fine chefs, a live auction hosted by professional auctioneer Bob Hale and first shopping privileges.

Established in 1981, the antique show was created to be an event with growth potential that would raise funds for the Columbus Academy. All proceeds will be used to support scholarships at the school, says Cathy Falkenberg, who represents show publicity. The show’s costs are kept at a minimum through the use of volunteers and help from students.

Falkenberg says the elementary students even helped to recreate versions of famous paintings by artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh and Kandinsky as a source of additional fundraising.

The antiques show will be held at the Columbus Academy, located at 4300 Cherry Bottom Rd. in Gahanna. Tickets for general admission and lecture admission are available at the door and cost $10 and $15, respectively. Tickets to the Gala Preview Party held on Friday are $125 per person and can also be purchased at the door.

Guests who bring their own items for appraisal on Saturday will earn free admission into the show.

Individuals are able to sponsor the show and receive event benefits such as tickets, lecture packages and box lunches. For more information call 614-517-7545 or visit www.columbusacademy-antiquesshow.org.
