Continuing the tradition of giving, the BIA will again use the BIA Parade of Homes, June 14-29, as an opportunity to support worthy local causes.
The BIA Foundation House, built this year by The Tuckerman Home Group, will donate proceeds from the sale of the house to the BIA Foundation. In addition, a design competition will see local celebrities face-off by highlighting their design sense. The winning celebrity will donate a cash prize to the charity of their choice.
Since beginning the Foundation House tradition in 1983, the BIA has included a fund-raising element to the Parade and donated more than $1.6 million through the BIA Foundation to designated charities such as Children’s Hospital, The Columbus Housing Partnership, Habitat for Humanity and The Community Shelter Board.
“The Foundation House is a great way the Parade can give back. To use professional craftsmanship in a way that will ultimately benefit others is just an amazing experience for all involved,” says Jim Hilz, BIA Executive Director. “And for the first time this year, the design challenge will add some fun while raising charitable contributions. By using local celebrities we hope to get people involved and interested in the building and design process rather than only on the day they take the tour.”
This year’s Foundation House builder, Tuckerman Home Group, specializes in custom home design and new home construction. They have been building custom homes throughout Columbus for the past 17 years. Tuckerman’s focus is on new home construction and luxury condominiums featuring elegant design, superb craftsmanship and gracious livability.
"I feel passionate about all the charities the Parade supports, but I’m particularly passionate about the opportunity to support Nationwide Children’s Hospital,” says Craig Tuckerman of the Tuckerman Home Group. “I was recently touched by a story just last week when one of my trade partner’s daughters underwent a heart transplant there. And I’ve experienced over and over what they’ve done for others close to me and my family.”
The Foundation House that The Tuckerman Home Group is building for this year’s Parade features an exceptionally livable floor plan. A dual-station computer room just off the gourmet kitchen and a mud room with lockers and cubbies help with organization. In addition to specially defined living areas for all members of the family, the floor plan also includes space where the entire family can enjoy their time together.
The 2008 BIA Parade of Homes runs June 14–29 and will be held at The Village at Hannah Farms situated on forty acres inside the City of Gahanna. The development boasts a strong connection with nature and is located adjacent to the City’s Hannah Farms Park. For more information on the parade, visit www.paradeofhomesideas.com.
