Movie Review
Fun and simple
Good Luck Chuck is light-hearted and uncomplicated

By Chris Alexis

Good Luck Chuck is basically every man’s fantasy.

Dane Cook plays Chuck who, as a boy, is cursed to never have love after he rejects a creepy-witch girl at a party. In fact, she curses that whomever he is with will find true love in her next relationship – as a form of torturing Chuck.

Cut to present day and women have noticed that every female Chuck sleeps with in fact finds true love in her next relationship.

So, essentially every woman who is single in the city now wants to sleep with Chuck.

Of course, Chuck ends up finding a woman he doesn’t want to lose to another man - Cam, played by Jessica Alba. Chuck spends the story trying to make sure he doesn’t lose her and let her fall in love with the next man she dates.

A lot of people I know hate Dane Cook. And while I’ve never really seen his stand-up comedy or paid much attention to him, he didn’t really bother me here.

Jessica Alba, always easy on the eyes, is fun in this movie. I don’t understand how the fact she’s a super-klutz adds anything to the story – but it makes for some good physical gags. Her obsession with penguins is so extreme, though, that I think any guy would be a tad creeped out by it, no matter how beautiful she is. (Especially what’s revealed about her as the end credits roll… Yikes.)

Dan Fogler, last seen in the atrocious Balls of Fury is actually pretty funny here as Chuck’s best friend. He’s a walking cliché, but has some great lines.

Is this the best movie you’ll see this fall? Not by far, but if you’re looking for a light-hearted comedy where you don’t have to think too much, this isn’t a bad bet.
