Foundation fundraiser features CityScene's Steve Stover

The Equal Justice Foundation of Columbus will hold its inaugural "A Taste of Justice" fundraiser at 6 p.m. May 26 at the Ohio Bar Association, 1700 Lake Shore Dr. The event will continue at 7:30 p.m. at several premier Columbus restaurants.

The event will feature delectable cuisine prepared by top chefs from six acclaimed Columbus establishments. Participants include Barcelona Restaurant and Bar, G. Michael’s Bistro, Rigsby’s Kitchen, Trattoria Roma, Alana’s Food & Wine and The Refectory.

Prior to dinner in the restaurant of the patron’s choosing, the cocktail reception at the Columbus Bar Association will play host to some of the city’s food critics who will prove they can cook as well as they write. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by food writers and critics Jon Christensen (The Columbus Dispatch), John Marshall (Columbus Monthly), Steve Stover (CityScene Magazine and Edible Columbus), Rich Terapak (WOSU) and award-winning barbecue aficionado Jim Budros.

“A Taste of Justice is a great opportunity to share some of the best food prepared by some of the most acclaimed chefs and columnists in Columbus and to enjoy the company of fellow Equal Justice Foundation supporters,” says Judith B. Goldstein, Equal Justice Foundation executive director.

A Taste of Justiuce’s cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception at the Ohio Bar Association will also include the presentation of the inaugural Benson Wolman Award to Julie Davis, executive vice president and general counsel, Retail Ventures, Inc., and president of the Board of the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation.

The Wolman Award honors those who work in the spirit of the late Benson Wolman, the former chief executive and general counsel of the Equal Justice Foundation and passionate restaurant reviewer and wine connoisseur.

Following the cocktails and hors d’oeuvres reception and presentation of the Wolman Award at the Columbus Bar Association, Taste of Justice will continue with dinner in the Columbus restaurant of each Equal Justice Foundation donor’s choosing. A “Chef’s Table” sponsored by Dine Originals Columbus will be offered in each restaurant.

Tickets cost $125 ($80 of each ticket may be considered a charitable donation). Tables for two to eight people are available for $500 to $2,500.

Proceeds from the inaugural event will benefit the Equal Justice Foundation. Since its formation in 1995, the nonprofit foundation has worked to abate the most pressing systemic, statewide problems affecting low-income Ohioans. The organization’s litigation services have included consumer protection, fair housing, welfare reform, public benefits, immigrant rights, disability rights, domestic violence, judicial conduct, civil and constitutional rights, public accommodations and environmental justice.
