Art, culture, food and drink will mix as the 1st annual Art in New Albany auction kicks off April 21. The inaugural event is organized by Columbus transplant Hayley Savage through Temple Beth Shalom and will be held from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
A long-time art collector, Savage became inspired by local art and wished to provide a way to support it within the Columbus community. The result is silent and live auctions of over 200 pieces of original artwork from 85 local and international artists and galleries. While the auction boasts the talents of many local Ohioans, artists from Chile to Russia also contributed their work and 20 have already signed up to participate in next year’s auction.
“It has grown beyond our wildest imagination,” Savage says.
Items for auction include paintings, sketches, ceramics, indoor and outdoor sculptures, blown glass, furniture, jewelry and handmade accessories.
Several local businesses are sponsoring the event and donated items, including a bracelet by fine jewelry designer David Yurman. Additionally, guests can bid on personalized services such as artist renditions of their homes, pets or favorite photographs.
Representatives from the Columbus Museum of Art, Capital University and the New Albany Arts Council will be present to provide information on art and supporting arts in the community. Guests will enjoy live music, hors d’oeuvres and desserts presented as edible art. Wine, beer, non-alcoholic drinks and specialty coffees will also be served.
Prices for auction items range from $10 to $15,000, Savage says. Half of the proceeds will be given to the artist or gallery while the remaining half will be used to fund Temple Beth Shalom.
Tickets are limited, for adults age 21 and over and are only available in advance. Food, drinks, a commemorative program and a chance to win raffle prizes are included with admission. Prices are $25 for Temple Beth Shalom members and $35 for non-members.
Individuals are able to support the event as a patron and receive free admission, additional tickets, early entrance into the auction and the opportunity to purchase items at retail price before bidding starts.
Temple Beth Shalom is located at 5089 Johnstown Road in New Albany. Tickets can be purchased by calling 614-855-4882. For more information, visit www.tbsohio.org/art07.
