Fore the Music!
Columbus Symphony Orchestra League's golf outing to raise funds
In an effort to help keep the music playing, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra League facilitates events throughout the year to raise funds for the orchestra, including the popular “Going Places” auction, “Café Concerts” and “Meet the Musician” programs. New to its philanthropic calendar is the inaugural golf outing at 2 p.m. May 23 at the Riviera Golf Club, 8205 Avery Rd., Dublin.

The scramble format outing costs $200 per golfer and includes cart, range, box lunch, course beverages and dinner. It also includes the chance to play at the Riviera Golf Club, which is hosting the 2010 Ohio Junior Championship and the 2010 local U.S. Open PGA Qualifier.

“The course is private and tree-lined and absolutely beautiful. And because it’s hosting two big events this year, it will be in pristine condition,” says Connie Cahill, golf outing chairperson.

The event also includes “An Afternoon on the Riviera” program with four presentations on the topics of finance, food, wardrobe/travel and gardening. The day culminates with dinner at 6:30 p.m., entertainment provided by symphony musicians and live and silent auctions. Auction items include golf packages and dinner for eight prepared by Chef Helmut Handke.

This year’s fundraising goal is $25,000. Net proceeds from the outing will be directed toward supporting the CSO. During its 27 years, the league has contributed more than $1 million to the symphony.

“These musicians really need our support. Times will get better, but we need to tighten our belts and help everyone get there in the meantime,” Cahill says. “The arts are the base of our community and we are very lucky to have a symphony.”
