CityScene keeps your social calendar filled!
Five Things to do this week: (Sept. 17-23)
1. Grandview Ox Roast (6 p.m. Fri. Sept. 17)
The annual fundraiser hosted by the Grandview Bobcats Boosters kicks off another year of community pride. Friday night’s meal includes hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst and fish, with 2,300 pounds of beef that was roasted overnight in an earthen pit. The event can typically raise $20-25,000 for Grandview’s football team. Call 614-488-1203 for more information.
2. Riverfront Arts Festival (Fri.-Sun. Sept. 17-19)
This festival celebrates its fifth anniversary along the scenic Scioto Mile in downtown Columbus. Guests can enjoy hand-crafted artwork, food and good times while celebrating and supporting the arts. This year, Opera Columbus will be on hand to provide music, while bonfires float on the surface of the Scioto. Truly, a great way to cap off the last official weekend of the summer. www.byhandevents.com
3. India Fest (10 a.m. – 10 p.m., Sat. Sept. 18)
This, the largest gathering of the Indian community of the year in Central Ohio, promises classical, folk and modern Indian dances, live music, authentic foods from area restaurants, vendor marketplace, fashion show, health fair, children’s area and more. Singer Arnab Chakraborthy headlines, presented by the Federation of Indian Associations. All of this happens Saturday at Vet’s Memorial on W. Broad St. www.indiafestival.com
4. Independents’ Day (Noon-midnight, Sat. Sept. 17)
The third annual festival celebrating independent art, music and food is one reason Columbus is known as “the indie arts capital of the world.” Fans of the DIY movement will be in handmade heaven, as 200 local vendors, 50 local bands, a theatre collective, artists, dancers, and street performers gather on Gay Street downtown for a celebration of all things bohemian. Come downtown and celebrate the “all for one, one for all,” spirit of Columbus’ arts community. www.thisisindependent.com
5. Gravity’s Ripple (6:30 p.m. Fri. Sept. 17)
Held on the grounds of the Dublin Arts Council on Riverside Drive, this site-specific contemporary dance project was inspired by the rolling hills and riverside environment of Dublin. Choreographed by Julie Fox, the dance will last about forty minutes, featuring dancers and musicians from OSU, Denison, Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan and College of Wooster. A wine tasting event will accompany the show. Tickets are $50, available at www.dublinarts.org
